" the news"

" The news!!!!"

This morning came a sudden rush of thoughts which has been recurring. In the last 5years my mind has been “over busy”. It has been occupied with all sorts of thoughts ranging from sex, marriage, relationships, family, relocation, Nigeria….. and then I pause on the list because my main focus in today’s writing is NIGERIA ( the country of my birth) .

I have been on a writing break not because of lack of things to write or talk about but because of too many things to talk about (feeling like a badt guy). Even after deciding to write about Nigeria; I still have an issue with what should I write about as there are too many things about the nation to talk about.

Is it the issue of whether gaining independence in 1960 was a curse or a blessing OR the issue of which is better Military or Civilian rule (a very disturbing topic in my mind) OR the Unemployment/Underemployment of the Nigerian populace OR the constant debates in the SENATE and NATIONAL /STATE assemblies and the list go on and on…… I take a pause to dissect certain issues and ask questions …. Hoping to find answers (“rolling eyes at the thought of the possibly fruitless exercise)
Trying to relax and get on with daily activities I choose to read a Newspaper which seems to be a routine for me. I am tired of this routine but I just can’t help it even if it is just a glance at headlines. Now you ask why are u tired of reading the newspaper?

Now look at headlines of certain newspapers:
  • Ø  GSK, UK biggest drug maker , pulls plug on Nigeria deal
  • Ø  Does Nigeria stand for anything?
  • Ø  This is Money.. Unexpected funeral expenses you should prepare for.
  • Ø  Outrage at Senate’s bid to legalize Child Marriage
  • Ø  Why am at war with First Lady by …..
  • Ø  Rivers and the shape of things unwanted etc.

These headlines are but a few of the “worrisome headlines of daily newspapers”…. Of all the above, I can’t see any good news. Then, I ask a question: Is news always bad?
This question has more of a negative response because even when you decide to listen to radio or TV news both locally and internationally all you hear are things like:
  1. Ø  Child molested by 2 grown men.
  2. Ø  Natural disaster in this place or that place.
  3. Ø  Peaceful protest in this place or that place …

The only good news in the paper of recent is the birth of royalty which seems to over shadow a lot of negativities for the British (at least they have something to cheer them)

What do we have to cheer us in this country?  It saddens my heart to say and ask: Is there hope for this country?
